Premiers Volunteer Champions Award
December 2015

Travis Williams (Trav) received the Premiers Volunteer Champions award which is a great formal recognition of the 15+ years he has put into building and maintaining the You Yangs Mountain Bike Trails.

The Premier’s Volunteer Champions Awards are the states most prestigious annual awards that formally recognise, thank and celebrate volunteers for the vital role they play in building and supporting stronger, healthier and more connected communities in Victoria.

Well done Trav and we are sure most will agree this park would not be what it is today without your dedication to the art of trail building.

Cressy Descent 2014 – Results are UP
Trail fund donation winners drawn

What a weekend! Awesome conditions some tight racing and huge crowds heckling the riders. Thankfully the weekend ran smoothly without any of the carnage we saw last year.

These races are not possible without the dedication of the crew from the club and support from volunteers. Huge thanks to the drivers, traffic control, rego, timing, track marshals, and the people who helped pack up and pick up rubbish, your help is truly appreciated by the club and everyone who rides the trails.

We must also thank @De Grandi Cycle & Sport for all the ongoing support they provide the club. If you need anything bike related be sure to stop by and visit them in Geelong.

Almost $3200 was donated online in the past 5 months. This money will be spent directly on building and maintaining the trail network.

Thanks to everyone who donated.

Giant Bicycles Australia Trance 27.5
Renee Camenzuli is the lucky winner. Renee please contact the club and confirm the amount donated and your suburb so we can verify you are the correct winner. Your new bike is available to be collected from De Grandi cycle and sport in Geelong

6 Hour All Mountain Gravity Enduro RACE RESULTS
From August 2nd & 3rd 2014

What a weekend! Who could have imagined how perfect the weather would be after the Armageddon conditions we experienced on Thursday and Friday.

A combined 320 entries across the weekend made it the busiest weekend for the club since the last Cressy Descent. A huge thanks the all the volunteers who came forward to help as track marshals, rider safety is critical and without you the day would not have been possible. A huge thanks to the crew from the club, drivers, traffic control & rego, you made everything run as smooth as silk.

We also need to thank Aaron from Event Timing for donating his time to support the club.

Thanks to Andrew from Quickeats for keeping everyone fuelled for racing and satisfying all the caffeine addictions. Another thanks to the guys and girls from Acute Health for patching up everyone's bumps and grazes.

Photos, the photographers are compiling all the images and as soon as the club receives links we will share online.

The clubs next big events are "Cressy Descent" on 6th & 7th September followed by "Challenge Ride 4 Kids, Specialized Mountain Bike Festival" All about raising money to support kids with cancer.

The final thanks must go to you the riders for turning up and having fun.

Cressy Descent 2013

On Sunday 22nd September You Yangs MTB Inc were running of our clubs annual event on everyone’s favourite track 13 “Cressy Descent” in the You Yangs Regional Park. 2013 and track 13 must have been a bad omen.

The event was running perfectly, sun was out, music was pumping, shuttles were turning around fast and everyone had a smile on their face. 250 competitors had completed practice and at 12.30 racing began with seeding for “A Grade” followed by race runs for our junior “Under 15” category, all getting down the hill safely. At 13.13 ( that is 1.13pm) the “Over 35’s” began their race runs and no one could have imagined what was to unfold 13 minutes later. In the space of 5 minutes we were
dealing with 4 separate incidents...

RESULTS - You Yangs MTB Inc. All-Mountain (AM) Gravity Enduro
The Race has been run and won - July 7th 2013

Race Results

Results from the first ever De Grandi 6 hour All Mountain Enduro are now available here.  We need to thank our sponsor De Grandi Cycle & Sport who always look after the club.   If you were not fast enough on the weekend go in and see the guys at De Grandi who will service your bike and hook you up with some new gear that will take seconds off your times.

This was the first time the club has run this format of event so we would love your feedback and suggestions on what was good or bad so we can tweak the format for next time.

Plenty of people were asking for more events and shuttle days.  This is not possible without volunteers.  The club AGM is coming up soon in early August so we would like to see as many club members at this meeting as possible.  Details will be emailed on the coming days.

What’s next for YYMTB?  Mark September 21 & 22 on your calendars and you will not be disappointed!

See you all on the trails again soon

New tracks and record visitors to You Yangs Regional Park
From Parks Victoria

Parks Victoria staff are preparing for a busy summer with mountain bike trail counters at You Yangs Regional Park reporting a 150 percent increase in visitor numbers since the site reopened in August. Realignment works on Track 4 ‘Rockwell Run’ are complete and the trail is open for use.

Chief Ranger Siobhan Rogan said the newly opened 1.8km trail is the result of a Healthy Parks Healthy People community grant received by You Yangs MTB Inc to realign the trail using sustainable trail building techniques and aligning it to International MTB Association standards.

Ms Rogan said apart from Track 11, all mountain bike trails have been reworked and are now open. She thanked a team of volunteers, including You Yangs Mountain Bike Inc and Geelong Mountain Bike Club, for their support and hard work.

“It’s a credit to our staff and volunteers that less than a year ago the You Yangs was completely closed. Since then we have repaired more than 30 kilometres of mountain bike tracks and put the You Yangs back on the list of must-do trails for riders.”

Richard Grant, President of the Geelong Mountain Bike Club said, “The new realignment of Track 4 - Rockwell Run provides a perfect climbing option for cross country riders looking to get up to the Stockyards Management Track. The club has the new track pencilled in for round three of the Gazebo MTB series event in March.”

Principal trail builder and founding member of You Yangs MTB Inc Travis Williams said, “The new alignment provides a good stepping stone for beginner and intermediate riders to move from the flatter Kurrajong MTB area into the more technical trails found in the Stockyards.”

Track 4 - Rockwell Run is a 1.8km trail located at the You Yang’s Stockyard area. The difficulty of the run is graded as ‘blue square’: an intermediate trail designed as a climb that requires an above average level of fitness.

Code Red - Catastrophic days
A recent State Government Decision has meant that all parks, reserves and forest areas in victoria will be closed on Code Red - Catastrophic days. Where gates are located, signs will be erected and gates locked. This is to minimise the number of people in the parks on those few days a year when the fire weather is considered dangerous and unpredicatable.
